The Definition of Freedom

by | Mar 4, 2021 | Journal | 0 comments

To get free sometimes looks like you’re losing your mind. Because that is exactly what is happening.

The mind is not a friend to freedom. Its purpose is to minimize danger, and freedom means we risk something. We have to thank the mind for that, because we aren’t walking into oncoming traffic. But getting smashed into someone’s windshield is not the definition of being free.

Every person’s exact definition of freedom is different, though that doesn’t give license for us to do whatever we want. Indeed, sometimes freedom is the ability to close a door because what’s in there hurts us and we can’t stay away. For others, it means opening the door as wide as it will go.

Freedom is the ability to tap into your own miraculous sort of joy-spring and not giving one single damn about what others think about what you’re sipping.
