Nature is a generous lover

Nature is a generous lover.

Though in the winter you may not believe her to be so. In those cold months, her embrace can feel unbearable. Her icy skin is pressed against you so tightly you struggle to breathe. You scratch at her form, desperate to see the sun again.

Then, all at once, her arms relax. You watch as buds grow on her fingertips and her breath sweetens with the scent of cherry blossoms.

As you shed your clothes and run to her, you’ll forget that she’s the same person whose frozen rivers you once resented.

Dance in summer’s dandelion fluff kisses, but remember that her love isn’t defined by warmth alone. As August rounds the corner to September, she will begin to draw you close once more, narrowing your view with each golden leaf. Don’t believe your mind’s violent insistence that she is betraying you again. Instead, lean into her wisdom. She is teaching you that love does not always look the way we think it should.

Listen. As the wind begins to blow the top layer of dirt away from the earth, she is whispering to you. A lover’s only duty, she says, is to generously give to you what you never knew you needed.

Take her as she offers herself to you. And she will care for you with the strength of the earth.
