I was raised in one of those weird families — we ate a home cooked dinner together nearly every night.
Yes, sometimes we ate at 9:30 p.m. because my mom worked on a newspaper’s deadlines.
Yes, what my parents cooked was often terribly underwhelming (microwaved frozen cauliflower, anyone?).
And yes, the television was always on.
But the point is the meal was there. And I could count on it being there.
Remember how important it is to plan to eat? Accepting that you need to nourish your body is the first step. Creating a consistent time to enjoy the meal it is the second.
Ayurveda carved the message of regular, nourishing mealtimes at home into my heart. But the tree whose trunk bears our initials was planted a long, long time ago.
The love I have for this anchor of eating at home is why you’ll find me around 1:00 and 6:00 at the same exact place every day — the table with my own little weird family.
