There’s a Purpose to All This Confusion

Whenever a client says that they are confused, I celebrate it.

That’s a rather bold statement, so allow me to explain.

Case in point: The past year and a half has been marked by confusion. And while I would never wish on anyone the immense suffering, loss of life, and toppled social structures that we’ve seen, we are closer to the truth because of it.

Yoga tells us that our suffering comes because we are confused. The point of confusion does not exist only in the mask debate (though it may appear that way at times); its true source is in forgetting that we are not separate from the divine, but contain the whole in our part.

Most people don’t realize the confusion in which they live. They go on, minds filled with anxious thoughts, bodies numbed to pain. They are unaware of the confusion that exists all around them. Though it may seem like the bliss of ignorance, they’re also missing out on all the actual bliss of being alive.

When confusion in any form becomes apparent, it’s a sign that we are a step out of the dark cave. We may not be fully realized, but we are closer to the light of reality. And I celebrate closer as a victory.

The path to truth always starts in the darkness. You can bow to this confusion even if you can’t even see your feet.
